Growers have a myriad of choices in soybean production systems. But when facing resistant weed pressure, they need herbicide solutions that work effectively and consistently in multi-crop and multi-year strategies.

With the OpenAg^® purpose in mind, UPL experts say PREVIEW™ 2.1 SC herbicide was developed to help growers battle broadleaf weeds and prevent herbicide resistant weeds from taking hold in their fields. PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide combines a powerful new 2:1 ratio of metribuzin (HRAC Group 5) and sulfentrazone (HRAC Group 14) in a novel SC liquid formulation to deliver a highly efficient weed management foundation herbicide with exceptional crop safety.

With multiple modes of action, PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide is effective against the six key weeds in soybean fields, including Palmer amaranth, redroot pigweed, waterhemp, morning glory and kochia.

PREVIEW 2.1 SC herbicide contains a precisely loaded 2:1 ratio of metribuzin (Group 5) and sulfentrazone (Group 14) to deliver a highly efficacious weed management foundation with exceptional crop safety. This formulation offers a higher concentration of active ingredients than competitors.

“Metribuzin is known to be one of the most effective AIs against waterhemp,” Jacobs says. “Growers will appreciate the convenient liquid formulation, a user-friendly use rate and its ability to be used in both conventional and traited soybean production systems.”

With multiple modes of action, PREVIEW 2.1 SC herbicide controls weed pressures on soybean acres plagued by the most devastating resistant weed species including Palmer amaranth, pigweed and waterhemp.

“This program also showcases what we at UPL want to do to encourage growers use best management practices and multiple modes of action to protect our herbicide options for years to come,” he adds.

A Powerful Combination

The flexible formulation of PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide pairs easily in a two-pass program with INTERMOC™ herbicide. This is a strong management solution for resistant weed pressures in glufosinate-resistant soybean systems, says Kip Jacobs, UPL Midwest Technical Services Manager.

INTERMOC, a combination of INTERLINE^® herbicide (active ingredient glufosinate-ammonium) and MOCCASIN^® herbicide (active ingredient S-metolachlor), is a first-of-its-kind premix that delivers exceptional results for soybean growers using the glufosinate trait system. “PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide followed by INTERMOC herbicide is a great base program for glufosinate soybean systems,” Jacobs says. “With that program, you're getting four modes of action, which is the minimum recommendation in fighting against resistant weeds, and reducing resistance selection to any one herbicide.”

In the fight against resistant weeds, experts agree that it is important to use herbicides with multiple modes of action in a systematic approach for effective full-season weed control.

Jacobs explains that a pre-emergent PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide application prior to the INTERMOC post-emergent application enhances the crop’s residual herbicide protection. The metribuzin and sulfentrazone in PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide provides an extended synergistic residual control of troublesome amaranth species, lasting up to 42 days.

“That gives us a longer window in the post application season to keep the crop clean until canopy closure,” Jacobs says. “This program allows us to hit weeds with PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide as a pre-emergence application and follow about 28 days later with our INTERMOC post emergence application, letting us get that appropriate second layer of residual herbicide on that acre. This ensures growers maintain clean fields throughout the season.

Exceptional Crop Safety

“Another factor that makes PREVIEW 2.1 SC herbicide an important foundational herbicide solution in soybean systems is it’s unique suspension concentration (SC) technology. This formulation makes it an excellent tank mix partner with other UPL herbicides,” Jacobs says.

In a UPL study, PREVIEW 2.1 herbicide at 18 fl. oz/acre had a 0.7% crop response, compared with competitors mean of 4.2%.

UPL’s Technical Services team continues to work closely with growers to scout fields, identify weed species present in the field and advise growers on the best product solution combinations to control those weeds.
